A Work In Progress
So I felt that it was time to start talking about another project that I started to work on http://thekelpbed.com, it is still very much a work in progress, however it is already started to get ranked by search engines. It is by no means done, we plan on changing some of the design, adding a full storefront as well as much more content and products, however it is all ready starting to get ranked by search engines. Already starting to get ranked by search engines means that we are already starting to get traffic and sales through the site, and we are not even done building it. Why I am talking about this you might ask yourself, well for one key purpose, which I also keep repeating, it is already getting ranked by search engines.
You see traditionally website developers come up with a few fancy designs, get one approved by their customer, collect their deposit, hire a programmer and start developing an elaborate site that no one will see for a few months. Meanwhile the client waits, their customers wait, and then one day the their site is finally ready…and no body knows how to find them.
Since site ranking is what it is all about, and it is what it all about, if you are entering the world wide web with your product or company and your developer does not know this then you’d better sit down and have a long hard talk with them on why they are wasting your time, because that is exactly what they are doing, wasting your time and money. More than 55 percent of all Internet purchases begin with a search engine, but 93 percent of these consumers do not look past the first two pages of search engine results. Thirty-three percent of users think that if a company has a top ranking on a search engine, it is a leader in its field! Fancy flash sites are of the past. Search engines cant find them, and so they are basically useless. Knowing this should help you re-think how you plan on entering the world wide playing field.
A website is a work in progress. You always start with your basic information usually found on three pages…the home pg., about pg. and the contact page. This way when a customer finds you they know first, who you are, second, what you are, and third how to contact you. For this reason these three pages are imperative. When a search engine comes to find you they will want to know the same three things, but they go about finding the information in different ways. They look at your content, your key words, your tags, your links, your site map etc etc etc. They could care less what your site looks like, or what color your picked for your logo, they want to know what you are about. Once they know what you are about, they start ranking you. It takes a while to get first page rankings so it is important to have a game plan on how you plan on getting there. If you think that your site will be done in three months, then you can add another 6 months before you see any changes in your rankings. If you start your site content building early, and then enter in the agreed upon design element three months down the road. Your site will already be seasoned and be on the front page much faster.
